These are just two websites I found recently that can offer some insights into how to create a blog and what makes a blog successful. Blogging Basics 101 www.bloggingbasics101.com/The World's 50 Most Powerful Blogs www.theguardian.com/technology/2008/mar/09/blogsFrom my perspective, I created my blog as a marketing tool for my eBooks and I also wanted to experiment with writing styles. My original idea was after I experimented for awhile I would have a better idea of topics I could write about and possible markets for those topics. But, my experiment has not yielded many results yet. Also, I think Jack Monroe is a good example of a person who through desperation found a creative outlet that eventually (through a lot of hard work and failures) found a way to make money from her blog and eventually her books. But, at the heart of her work is intelligent, witty, creative writing and quality products. While Jack has FB, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, it was her blog that launched her career. Which is why I emphasize creating a blog or website that is not gated, meaning if someone puts in keywords or your name, they should be able to find you, see some of your work and get contact info. An important note: if you read Jack's blog, you will see she works 10-17 hours a day or more, working on new recipes, new cookbooks, marketing and more.
